Praying for this nation; How to pray during times of trouble.

Everywhere we turn we hear of some horrible event taking place lately. Shootings, natural disasters, and so much more. We can ask where is God? What is going on? I say we need to pray! Pray for our nation, pray for our town, our families – pray. And another thing to add to prayer is remembering that Jesus instructed us to love one another. {1 John 3:23}.

As Christians we must also remember we have weapons to combat the enemy, one is  – The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Jesus used this spiritual weapon when tempted by Satan in the desert. Each time Satan attempted to deliver a blow, Jesus blocked the attack with the Word of God by quoting scripture. We are to do what Jesus did, so we should be combating the enemy with God’s word just as Jesus did.

Praying the Word is using your Sword and defeating the enemy! Today I am giving an example of a prayer to pray over this nation. Let’s take up our Sword and wield it over our nation and over one another…

1 Timothy 2:1…………Heavenly Father, I give thanks for our government and this nation.

1 Timothy 2:2………..I pray for all men and women having authority over us in any way.
Proverbs 1:23……….Pour out Your Spirit upon them and make Your Word known to them.
Psalm 25:21………..Cause them to be men and women of integrity, obedient concerning us,
1 Timothy 2:2………..that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, in all godliness and honesty.
Proverbs 2:10……….Let wisdom enter their hearts, and let knowledge be pleasant to them.
Proverbs 2:11……….Let discretion preserve them and understanding keep them,
Proverbs 2:12……….to deliver them from the way of evil and from evil men.
Psalm 1:1……….Make their hearts and ears attentive to godly counsel,
2 Chronicles 20:32………doing what is right in your sight.
Proverbs 2:21……….Let the upright dwell in our government.
Hebrews 12:27……….Cause there to be a shaking in all areas.
Proverbs 2:21……….Let those complete and blameless before You stay.
Proverbs 2:22……….and cut off the wicked. Let the unfaithful be rooted out.
1 Corinthians 4:5…………Bring to light what is hidden in darkness,
1 Corinthians 4:5…………and expose the secret aims of the hearts.
Revelation 2:5………….Let this nation remember from where they have fallen,
Revelation 2:5………….repenting, and returning to doing their first works,
1 Chronicles 22:19……..setting their hearts and their souls to seek the Lord,
2 Chronicles 7:14……….humbling themselves, praying, and turning from their wicked ways.
2 Chronicles 7:14……….Then hear them, O Lord, and forgive their sins and heal our land.
Acts 26:18……..Open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light.
Hebrews 3:13………..Soften the hearts that are hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Psalm 107:20……….Deliver them from their destructions.
2 Peter 3:9…………Father, You have been longsuffering toward us,
2 Peter 3:9…………not willing that any should perish,
2 Peter 3:9…………but that all should come to repentance.
Isaiah 49:22………..Raise up a standard in this nation.
Zechariah 10:1……….Cause the rains of Your Spirit to flood this land
Habakuk 3:2………….and revive Your work in the midst of us.
Isaiah 59:16………..Raise up intercessors for this nation
2 Corinthians 10:4……….to pull down strongholds over this land.
Isaiah 40:5…………And let the glory of the Lord be revealed!

Holy Father, we thank You for blessing our country. Thank You for honoring our prayers as a nation and extending Your mercy toward us. Thank You for protecting our borders. Your Word is true and we can trust everything that You do. You lavish it on those who come to You for protection, blessing them before the watching world.

In Jesus Name we pray. Amen!

Are You Too Busy To Sharpen?

j0437245

Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asks for a job in a timber merchant, and he got it. The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated for the boss’ words, the woodcutter try harder the next day, but he only could bring 15 trees. The third day he try even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

Mental Assent

God said go but I like it here, so now what? Author Sandra HerseyWhen I taught in Bible Colleges, I  taught what John Wesley called “Mental Assent.” Wesley said “people mentally agree that the Bible is true, but they don’t believe it in their heart.” We must believe it with our heart and not our minds. We can’t just say, yes I know the Word of God is true but don’t believe what it says you can have is for you.

How do you know if you are believing with your head and not your heart? Matthew 12:34 says “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” What is coming out of your mouth? Are you saying I hope God will, or He will sometime, or God is going to, are you talking about lack when the word tells us in 3 John 2 “beloved above all things I desire you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.” Are you hoping Jesus will heal you or thinking in the future He will when 1 Peter 2:24 tells us “by whose stripes you were healed.” That word were is past tense so we have already been given healing by Jesus.

Are you believing with your head or your heart? What are you saying. What are you declaring into your life right now by the words you speak.

Jesus told us we can have what we desire when we believe. Our part is to ask, believe it has been done, and allow Jesus to manifest it for us!

Let’s look at one last scripture today 1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: ( we are born or God right so we overcome the world) and this is the victory that overcometh the world, ( here is the answer to your situation pay attention) even our faith.” Your victory according to this promise of God is you ARE to overcome the world and you get victory by your faith!

The message Bible says “The conquering power that brings the world to its knees is our faith.” YOUR faith is the conquering power that brings the world to its knees! You can bring sickness, diseases, lack, debt, poverty, relationship problems, whatever your circumstance the Word of God says YOUR faith is the conquering power to bring it to its knees!
Our job is to be like the royal official and take Jesus at His Word.

7 Ways to a Joyous Day

j0438953

Ever have one of those bad days? You know—not kind of bad, but bad. You mess up at work. You have a terrible fight with your spouse. Your doctor calls you in for some tests. A day you just wish you could crawl into bed and pull the covers over your head. When you have a day like that {and let’s face it, we all do} you have several choices. You can retreat into paralyzing fear, act out inappropriately, or just go into complete denial.

But there’s actually another choice: You can rejoice.

Rejoice? Why would I want to rejoice?!

Because it’s the only real way out. “This is the day the Lord has made,” the psalmist tells us, “We will rejoice and be glad in it.” This day? This messy, painful, frustrating day deserves a chance? Yes! Every day, whether it includes lost finances, a dented bumper, or a bad doctors report, deserves our full presence. My pastor has been reminding us that “nothing is wasted.” So not even this day and what you are going through right now is wasted if you give it to God and allow Him to turn it into good.

Still not convinced? I want to show you seven strategies you can use the next time you find yourself in a day that holds more than you think you can endure.

Fret Not

Anxiety will ruin your day, your mood, and your confidence. I know. I get plenty of opportunities to fret: Will I make the right decision for my child? Did I give the right advice to the one who asked for help? Worry can be deafening and even screams louder than a tantrum throwing toddler. A friend who once told me, “I always assume everyone likes me.” For me that is a crazy idea. But I decided to give it a try—not just once, but to make it a regular thought habit. I started by giving myself and my audience the benefit of the doubt: We’re all here because we’re comfortable with one another. That habit has changed how I view my world.

You can’t add one more day to your life by fretting. Worry doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles; it only rids today of its strength.

And why should you worry when you are surrounded by friends wherever you go?

Forgive Freely

Forgiveness is not about saying what a person did is okay or that they’re right. It’s about making a decision, a choice to let the hurt and anger go. It frees you up to move on. Forgive someone and you’ll discover that that person has virtually no power to hurt you anymore. Then you’ll be able to focus on what you really care about: the joy of life.

Fear Not

Fear is a joy-killer. It can make me stressed out, short-tempered, unhappy.

What’s the opposite of fear? Trust. I do better when I trust in God—and go for a short jog. He’s in control of my life.

Place your fear in God’s hands and you’ll find that you have greater peace each day.

Live Passionately

Discover your passions by looking back over your life for those sweet-spot moments where you’ve had ‘Yes!experiences. String those together, and you’ll begin to see new possibilities for your life.

Nothing gives the day greater joy than a good wallop of passion that comes from doing something from the soul.

Get Over It!

Sometimes I’ll have a bad day just by waking up on the wrong side of the bed. I don’t know why I’m grouchy, but I can stay that way for the rest of the day.

If you look long and hard enough, you’ll find something to bellyache about. So quit looking!

If you have health problems, you probably feel justified in complaining. Being in pain is no fun. But try this instead of griping: Take a break from your problems. Face each day determined to dwell on the positives. Think about what you have to look forward to. Write a list and put it where you can see it. Try lending an ear to someone in need. Be especially kind to people with whom you have only one encounter—a waiter, a taxi driver, a store clerk. You may have only one chance to be kind.

When you start living for others, it’s pretty hard not to get over whatever’s bothering you.

Collect Your Blessings

Recognize all that you have, and finding blessings to collect will become easy. The key to a joyous day? Make gratitude your default emotion. Say, “I can find things to be grateful for in this day.” Let your thoughts be positive. Expect good things to happen. Seek out people who can encourage you. Over time, you’ll find that God’s list of blessings is longer than your list of burdens.

Once in a race, I was running next to a 66-year-old grandma. I was about to give up, but she urged me on. “Just hang in there, you’re doing really well. Look how far you’ve come.” I ran next to her and started congratulating myself for all the miles I’d run, not the ones that were still ahead. It worked and I finished the race strong.

Color Your World

One day I was at the beach, enjoying the balmy day I had so looked forward to. The sand was soft and cool. Tufts of clouds drifted across a deep blue sky. I leaned back in my beach chair and closed my eyes. That’s when a seagull decided to use my chest as target practice. Yuck! I poured water on my shirt, trying desperately to get the stain out. And just like that, I’d lost the color of the day. Almost.

Maybe you were caught in bad traffic or your flight was cancelled or you haven’t gotten over that nagging cold. How can you see the world in vibrant color on a day like that? Many of us can’t. There I was on the beach…about to allow one errant seagull ruin my day. I moved my chair, trying to regain the magic of the morning. And then I practiced all these steps I’ve been writing (passionately) about: forgiving the bird (after all, it was only doing what came naturally), not fretting or fearing, counting my blessings (what a beautiful beach) and mostly, getting over it! No, it wasn’t too late for my day to be a joyous one.

The world is full of vibrant color. Don’t let it lose an ounce of its luster. Assume this day is going to be good, and it will. God made it so.

Breakthrough; How to Have It Happen For You!

Breakthrough; How to Have It Happen For You!The word “breakthrough” is one I like to call a “Christianese”  word. Words that we say as Christians, but do we really think about what they mean? The Dictionary defines breakthrough as, “Advance all the way through and beyond an enemy’s front-line defense.” Think about breaking through in the situation you currently face. Your  job is to advance all the way through. This means you cannot stop, give up, or give in! You must go beyond the enemy’s front line! Who is the enemy? Satan and all his cohorts are your enemy. Your enemy is not the person you are having a disagreement with or your financial situation. The Word of God tells us, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12). That word “wrestle” means warfare between the saints (you) and spirit rebels who are against God. Not against whomever our disagreement or frustration is with. No matter what situation you are facing, the root of it is the enemy who is trying to steal, kill, and destroy you. You my friend have the choice, you can choose to fight back by going ahead to the enemies front line and advancing all the way through. Or you can choose to stand and allow him to fully overtake you. You must not give in or the enemy will gain ground. If you do not trust your Heavenly Father and all He has given you to battle the enemy with, then you are handing Satan an advantage.

How do you keep advancing against the enemy? To win your battle, whether it is sickness, despair, loneliness, depression, financial, other people, NO matter what it is; Jesus has already won the victory for you! That’s what the cross and rising out of the grave were all about! Your responsibility is to spend time in prayer, worship, and in your Bible! These 3 steps are sure fire ways to advance against the enemy. However, you must know you are in a battle. The enemy has waged war on you and you have the choice whether or not to fight. The Father knew you would have battles so He already provided you the equipment you need to win! (The following is an excerpt from my new book; “Help! I’m Alone With My Mind! A Guide To Having Victory Over Your Thoughts”) –

Your Heavenly Father has already equipped you with the right “equipment” you need to face any battle you come up against. He has given you your armor, but you must put this armor on according to Ephesians 6:11 when Paul plainly says, “Put on all of God’s armor…” Why? “… so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” This tells you, you must put on this powerful armor in order to be left standing at the end of the battle. “Battle??!!!” I hear some screaming, “I did not sign up for a battle!!!” Well you my friend are in a battle every single day. We battle many things in our lives but let’s not forget the biggest battlefield is our own mind! And to win the war over your thoughts, you must use every piece of equipment provided to you. Notice you have been given your list of weapons right there in Ephesians 6. You are to put on your belt of truth, your breastplate of righteousness, your Gospel shoes, your shield of faith, your helmet of Salvation, and your sword of the Spirit! Once you are spiritually dressed for success you are able to use these valuable pieces to win the battle which rages between your ears and in your life! You are to use these weapons of mass destruction and cut off those thoughts which are contrary to the Word of God! I want you to see a few valuable points about the armor of God you are wearing.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:10-18). Congratulations you are dressed and ready to battle against the enemy and stand against his attacks.  I know you may be standing, but also you may begin to get weary sometimes when the battle is long and hard. This is where your thoughts must line up with the Word of God, which you are allowing to dwell in you richly. What so often happens is you have allowed the enemy to have a playground with your mind, and therefore you feel you cannot stand. But this passage of scripture instructs you when you have stood then what – you stand some more! But how do you stand? You are to stand with the full armor on and ready, then use your armor for specific purposes. Verse 16 says you take up the shield of faith, and with your faith, you extinguish the fiery darts of the enemy. Your faith is your shield. Faith is so important to God, that when you are not standing in faith, you are not pleasing the Father (Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God”). Therefore, it is your faith which is the shield to stop the darts of the enemy. Do you see that? God does not hand you a shield, but He says your faith will make a shield. In other words, like a blacksmith pounds metal into the shape of a shield for protection, you use your faith and grow it. As you do, you are pounding the shape into a shield for your protection. Your faith is your shield! It is vitally important to grow up your faith with the Word of God, or your shield is going to be very small and frail, or maybe even non existent! Can you imagine a warrior without a shield to protect him in battle? Remember those movies of old, which have the warriors out fighting on the fields with their sword and shield, riding on the brave strong horse? Then when the opposing army shoots millions of arrows through the air, the defending army kneels down and puts their large shield over their head to protect their entire body from the enemy’s arrows. You must have your shield large and strong to fight the enemy and his arrows! His arrows are the fiery darts which come into your mind, and it is your responsibility to use your faith (not what you can see, but what you know the Word says will happen) and to extinguish those fiery darts invading your mind!

Now let’s look at verse 17 – Paul’s says you are to take the Sword of the Spirit (that is the Word of God) and you are to “wield” it, the amplified translation says. The word “wield” means to handle a weapon or tool with skill and ease. However, it also means to exercise authority or influence effectively. Oh you are missing what I am trying to teach you here! You are to take the Word of God and exercise your authority which Jesus has already given you! And when you use this authority, mixed with speaking or “wielding” the Word of God, it says you will use it effectively! Using the Word of God against whatever is invading your mind, will effectively rid it of intruders as long as you use it and wield it. If you are feeling overwhelmed, you grab your sword and attack the thought with the truth, which states Jesus is your rock and your salvation! When doubt tries to invade you, disprove the thought by declaring Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

The Sword of the Spirit is a dual weapon. It is both an offensive and a defensive weapon. Think about football offense and defense teams. When you are on the offensive team your one goal is to get as close to the end zone as possible – that’s how you win the game! The defensive team’s job is to keep the offensive team as far away from the goal as possible. Now, when using the Sword of the Spirit (remember this is the Word of God) against the enemy, while you are on the offensive team you speak out the Word of God to cause you to win the game. Speak scriptures which declare you are the winner! When you are on the defensive team, you use the Word of God to keep the enemy from scoring a touchdown so to speak. Speak out the Word which tells the enemy to stop!

Another great aspect of the Sword of the Spirit is it is considered a two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). The Greek translation reads it is a two-mouthed sword. It is vital you speak out the Word of God. You must not just pray it in your head. Look at all Jesus did in His life here on earth, however, He spoke out loud and then things happened. You too must speak out loud the Word of God. Now notice – the Greek I said means two-mouthed sword, this means it is God speaking on one side and you speaking on the other! If you are not jumping you need to read that again! God speaks out His Word and commands over your life as you speak the Word of God out! Wield your sword and speak it out!

Another great piece of your armor in the fight against your thoughts is the helmet of Salvation. This helmet means it covers depression, worry, wrong thoughts, and things which invade your mind, because this helmet of Salvation is who you are in Christ and the authority given to you! Jeremiah states, “Our heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” (Jeremiah 17:9). How true it is, and because your flesh wants to lead you in the wrong direction, you must be careful or you might end up on the wrong side. Therefore, you have to be ready and always keep your thoughts in line with the Word of God. You have to be prepared for action by preparing your mind, wearing all of your armor, and bracing up your mind with the Word. The enemy always shows up in your mind. He knows if he can get your thoughts on the problem versus what the Word of God says, he will destroy you. 1 Peter 1:13 tells you to, “Gird up the loins of your mind.” In other words, you are to guard your mind with the truth of God. The word “gird” means to encircle, to fasten or secure, to surround, to equip or endow, (and my favorite) to prepare oneself for action. You are to prepare yourself for action, dressed in your mighty armor! Now that’s something worth thinking about!

Your breakthrough comes as you wear your armor, pray, praise, speak out the Word of God over your situation, and keep advancing through the enemy lines until you see your victory!

God desires for you to walk in victory in all areas of your life; including your mind. He has made a way for you through His Word. Unlock His secrets and begin to walk in all He has for you – starting with your mind! In my book “Help! I’m Alone With My Mind! A Guide To Having Victory Over Your Thoughts” you will learn how to take your thoughts captive and step into the full peace of God – No matter your situation!

The Best Day of My Life

The Best Day of My Life. An Inspirational BlogToday, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever!

There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did! And because I did I’m going to celebrate! Today, I’m going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far: the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.

I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart. I will marvel at God’s seemingly simple gifts: the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds.

Today, none of these miraculous creations will escape my notice. Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I’ll make someone smile. I’ll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don’t even know. Today, I’ll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down. I’ll tell a child how special he is, and I’ll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for her and how much she means to me.

Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don’t have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me. I’ll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine. And tonight, before I go to bed, I’ll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will praise God for these magnificent treasures.

As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life. And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever!

Every Tomorrow Has Two Handles

Every Tomorrow Has Two Handles. Sandra Hersey. Keys to victorious faith Christian blog

“Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith.” ~ Henry Ward Beecher

I love this saying because we can create our future; we can have a future filled with anxiety or we can have faith to stand and believe our future is what we want it to be. Hebrews 11:1 so wonderfully proclaims to us, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (As a little freebie thrown in today notice that it says “now faith” – that means faith for right now! What do you need faith for right now?)
I want to help you write your future by looking into your future.

I want you to look closely at your goals you have set for this year. {If you have not set your goals for this year then stop now and do it!} I believe this year is going to be GREAT! I want you to BLAST into it, not have it take you by surprise, start now with what you want to happen this year! I want to help you live what’s most important every day you have left!

Your Goals
Look at your list carefully. Does your list of goals reflect opportunities for you to live your dreams? Think of it this way – on that sheet of paper is a small picture of your future.

Your future is a canvas that has yet to be drawn. Next year at this time, you will look at this list and as you cross off things you have accomplished it will be the history of your life… what happened… where you went… big and little accomplishments… failures… heartbreaks… disappointments… and even big successes.
The future will happen and day-by-day and sadly it will silently move into your past.

4 Key Questions:
Here are questions which are important in helping you create the future you want.

Have you written a list of the most important goals you want to experience in your life this year?

Have you written a personal mission statement for your life this year? A statement which promises how you will live what you value.

Have you written down your goals in clear detail with a date to each one?

Do you have at least one clearly defined goal for every major interest and role in your life? Example financial, health, relationships, etc

We are only a few weeks into the New Year. You may have not yet written down your goals and vision for this year or you may have done this but “fallen off the wagon” so to speak. No matter where you are on this day, start like it is January 1st all over again. It is not too late and if you have stumbled then get up and get going again. You can do this; your future can be what you create it to be.

I encourage you to start today, why not right now. You can never get these moments back so go forward.
