What is God’s Will for Me?

What is God's will for me?What is God’s will for my life? It is a question I have asked myself and I am sure you have asked yourself the same. For me, if I am not careful it can become an obsession; the very weight of it and all the question marks can become overwhelming. But why? I guess because I, like you, want to make sure I am in His Will and my Father in Heaven is pleased with me. I do want to hear “Well done thy good and faithful servant” one day!

As I seek Him I have come to a new revelation which has helped set me free – God’s will is not a problem for ME to solve! Now before the lynch mob appears let’s look at the one place where all answers are found – The Bible.

The Word of God tells us plainly that His grace does not depend on our performance. We can do nothing to earn his grace; it is done for us. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” {Ephesians 2: 8-9}

And even though we tend to want to figure out exactly what God wants us to do in that moment, God’s Word says His faithfulness does not depend on what we know; our wisdom does not count here, it is His faithfulness that counts. “The LORD’S loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” {Lamentations 3:22-24}

Our promise from God is that no matter how our life looks His steadfastness and goodness trumps whatever is going on! No matter what it looks like; His love for you and I endures FOREVER towards us!! {Rest in Psalm 136 for a moment}

We tend to get caught up in what is going on; and I know things get messy and get scary and get hard. Trust me I KNOW! Yet, His love towards you and I endures. And because His love endures and because His grace does not depend on our performance, and because His faithfulness to help us does not depend on what we know – we can rest in this: His will is not so much a path we are to walk on as it is a way of walking. How we walk with Him matters. So how are we to walk out our daily messy lives you ask? Simple; We are to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances. This is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus.” {1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18}

That’s it! We can rest assured that when we continue to pray and give thanks, even in the hard stuff, we are in His Will. Praying though a hard situation sounds something like, “God I trust you, I do not necessarily  understand, but I trust you. Help me to stand even when I feel I have stood  a long time. I love you Father and I simply trust you in this.”

Now you can rest in knowing you are in His Will. Continue to declare His goodness: even when it does not look too good on the outside. Remember, even diamonds got off to a rough start, then a ton of pressure had to be applied to make a beautiful stone. Pressure is not fun I know – but the reward is. And I know this; God rewards trust {Check out these scriptures on trusting God}. Now rest in knowing that as you trust Him you are in His will!

Facing Doubts

How to face doubts. Keys to victorious faith. Inspirational blogMany of Jesus’ followers were eye witnesses to the amazing miracles Jesus worked in His life here on the earth. They watched firsthand as Jesus turned water into wine, restored sight to the blind, healed infirmities and brought the dead back to life.

I think about Martha who had spent a lot of time with Jesus; He had been at her home on many occasions and yet she doubted that He could perform such a miracle when Jesus called Lazarus to rise from the dead and walk out of the tomb {John 11}! She allowed her grief and her five-sense realm to dictate to her what her belief should be. She knew in the natural that Lazarus had been dead too long; too long for even Jesus to do anything about – or so she thought. Yet even though Jesus knew she had doubts, Jesus called to Lazarus to come forth and right before Martha’s unbelieving eyes she watched Lazarus walked out of the tomb alive and well!

I believe most of us would probably doubt as well. Twitter would be full of tweets, blogs would be over run with accusations and news TV shows would continue to sow seeds of doubt and discord among the nations of the lies and tricks of this man named Jesus. We would have trouble believing that such a miracle could really happen. However, in the face of our doubts, no matter how strong or cynical, Jesus is still the miracle worker. He is still the one who today heals, frees and even raises those from the dead!

Do we trust He can do anything in our lives today? Do we trust He can and will provide our every need? Do we trust He can open blinded eyes in the natural and in the spirit realm? Do we trust He can and will do even the miraculous?

We cannot allow our doubts keep us from experiencing Jesus’ life changing power. We must trust Him and stand back and watch him work in our lives and in the lives of those around us. Only trust Him, only trust Him, only trust Him now!

Shaken or Shaped – Your Choice!

Shaped or shaken over a situation. The choice is yours. God is a faithful God; He has promised you, in His Word, He would never leave you and never forsake you {Deuteronomy 31:6}. His Word is truth. As you look around, the times you are facing are tough. If you watch the news, you will hear story after story revealing the tough times you are in. You girlfriend, have walked through tough times in your life, I know. However, God is a good God. He is a faithful God!

It is written in Deuteronomy 33:25, “…and as your day, so shall your strength, your rest and security, be.” Notice, it says your days will be strengthened. You will have rest and security. The words, “And as your day” refers to the times you are in – your day in history now. Your days will be tough at times; the Word has told you that. However, when you set your mind, your heart, your lips, and your feet, on Him and His Word, you shall be strengthened! God is always there supporting you and sustaining you – no matter what!

Vance Havner said “Sometimes your medicine bottle has on it, “Shake well before using.” That is what God has to do with some of His people. He has to shake them well before they are ever usable.” Look at your past. Look at where God has already brought you through! You may be in the midst of a storm right now, but you can get through it. In the past, if this storm had been in your life, you could not have stood up against it, but, because of what you have already gone through, you can walk through this storm stronger! God strengthened you in the last storm to prepare you for this storm. He is strengthening you in this storm to prepare you for the future! His future for you is good! You can – because you already have! You already have been through and came out the other side victoriously! Do you face storms? Then you will have strength! Do you have burdens? Then you will have strength! You will have strength, rest, and security in the hand of the Almighty God. He HAS strengthened you for this time, and He IS strengthening you for the future!

The storms, which come into your life, can either shake you or shape you. The choice is yours.

Toxic Thinking and How to Stop It

How to stop toxic thinkingThe average person thinks over 30,000 thoughts a day, but what exactly are those thoughts about? Would you be surprised to know that research shows that 84-92% of our thoughts are toxic or negative? Research has also shown how our minds are developed, so to speak: 50% of our mind-set comes from genetics, 40% are determined by our habitual thoughts, words, feelings, and actions, and only 10% is determined by our circumstances. Yet, most think our circumstances make up the majority of our happiness which in turns determines what we think about. Yet look at those stats again – 50% genetics, 40% by our words and actions, and only 10% circumstances. All of this makes up our thought patterns and those thought patterns in turn make up our day-to-day lives. The truth is whether we like it or not, our lives are the product of our thoughts!

Our minds coast along without our help at all; it is like setting our mind on autopilot, however the trouble is, most of the time, the course set is not one we need to be journeying on. If allowed to just wander, our thoughts will stay in the negative lane of life so to speak. But there is hope! We can change our thoughts and we can direct them to the right path as well! And we when change our thoughts we can change our life. The Bible declares, “as a man thinks in his heart so is he.” Now that is powerful! Think about that; as you think – you believe you are!  James Allen said, “ Every action and feeling is preceded by a thought.” So it is imperative we get our thoughts in the right place since it is proven that our thoughts determine our destiny.

OK so how do we change our thoughts? I am not going to say it will be easy, but I promise you that if you do some “training” you will be able to get your thoughts in line. I base my life on what the Bible says, so what does it say about how we think?

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Pretty straight forward right? But do we do it? Well I can honestly say this is an area I have struggled with, but I can tell you that you can fix it and here is how: Capture your thoughts and replace them with others!

2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to “Take every thought captive by renewing your mind.” The word capture means “to gain possession or control of.” So when a thought enters your mind, you capture it by stopping it and thinking a new thought instead. Replace that toxic thought with something positive like praise or thankfulness, or something you enjoy. Anything positive to replace the negative toxic thought you have. I will warn you, you will be surprised just how much negative you think about in a 24 hour period when you start “training” your mind. But this realization is good; it will help you to win this battle between your ears!

With every thought you have 2 choices of what to do with that thought: First, you can allow that thought to remain and run rampant and control your mind and ultimately your emotions and your life. Or second, you can capture that thought and replace it with a positive thought and change your life.

To change your thoughts and change your life you must learn to funnel every thought through Philippians 4:8. Then ask yourself some honest questions concerning your thoughts. For example, your thought may be, “I will never get ahead.” Now concerning that thought you must ask yourself on a scale from always true to never true, is this thought true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, excellent, or praiseworthy.

What the Bible tells us to think on may need a little more explanation to help you see where you thoughts really are.

When Philippians tells us to think on things with are true that means thoughts which are consistent with fact or reality. Thoughts which are honest are those which are not deceptive or fraudulent. Thoughts that are just are ones which are based on fact or sound reason. Those thoughts which are pure are thoughts which are free of dirt, defilement, or pollution. When our thoughts are lovely they are ones which have beauty which appeals to our emotions as well as appealing to the eye. When we think on thoughts that are of good report they are thoughts which have a positive account of the proceedings or transactions. Our thoughts that are excellent are ones of the highest or finest quality; those that are exceptionally good. And finally those thoughts that are praiseworthy are ones deserving of praise.

You can change the toxic thoughts you have. It does take some work; but you will be set free by following these simple steps.

Laughing at Impossible Situations

Impossible Situations. Keys to victorious faith. Inspirational Women's BlogGenesis 18 tells us of the well-known story of Sarah laughing at an impossible situation. She was told she would bear a child when she was past child-bearing age; at least to her she was. But God is never too late, He can do the impossible!

When those men visited Abraham and Sarah they encouraged them to have faith in the promise that God would give them a son. When Sarah overheard the men talking her response was to laugh at what seemed impossible! She was ninety years old and could not believe this could happen to her now.  After her guests left Sarah continued to ponder their words – “Nothing is too hard for the LORD” and the Lord gave those words peculiar power which grew in her heart.

Does something in your life seem totally impossible for God? I know we all have or are facing situations like Sarah. We may have prayers which seemingly go unanswered. We then start to examine ourselves, and if you are like me you begin to ask is it because you are lacking faith?

God alone has created the world we live in. He created things we cannot see with our naked eye. Each day the sun rises and sets and is never too early or too late. The planets spin around us without even crashing into the earth. There are things happening every day we are not even aware of, yet God who is all-powerful and who greatly cares for every aspect of this universe, knows every detail about every thing.

It was impossible for Sarah to become pregnant, but she, just as we must, looked beyond impossibilities and placed her faith in God.

One important aspect of our Christian walk is faith and faith does not stand on nothing. Faith must have a promise in which to rest on and the Word of God is filled with Promise after Promise in which we can cling to and stand on in the midst of impossible situations.

“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2

“When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Then You knew my path. In the way in which I walk They have secretly set a snare for me.” Psalm 142:6

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Isaiah 40:28

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” John 14:1

“There is none holy like the LORD: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. For there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.” Psalm 28:7

“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalm 37:5

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:2 

 

Are your finances impossible?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Does it seem impossible your child will ever change?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Is your marriage in an impossible place?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Is there a loved one where it seems impossible they will ever come to know Jesus?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Is a diagnosis from the doctor impossible for the doctors?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37

Nothing is too hard for the Lord! No matter your situation, it is in no way impossible for God!

Sarah was counted faithful “Because she judged him faithful who had promised.” She rested her faith on a promise from God.

Keep praying in faith, stand on those Promises given to us in His Word, because nothing is impossible for God!

How to Get Started

How to get started when you want change. Keys to victorious faith. Inspirational Blog. Sandra HerseyIf I asked ten people if they wanted to change or improve. I would received ten nods.

IF then asked those ten people precisely what they wanted. I would received ten stares.

Everyone wants to change. Everyone, however, does not  know what they want to change. The desire is there, but it’s vague. It’s a feeling and not a fact.

If you are serious about doing more with your life, you have to – have to – get clear about what you want. The answers may not come easily, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

It will take work. It will take focused thought, effort, and investigation. But lying on the other side of that work will be a life that makes you happier and more fulfilled than ever before.

Get clear about what you want – super specific – and you’ll be one of the rare few who do more than desire. You’ll pursue and achieve.

Do we really know what we want? In each area of our lives; spiritually, physically, financially, relationally – do we really really know? Today I am challenging myself and you to take some time and write down what we really want in each area of our lives. Writing it down is the first step! You can read more about writing it down here.

How Do You Talk To Yourself?

How Do You Talk To Yourself? Keys to victorious faith. Inspirational BlogHow do you talk to yourself?

Do you use the words “can’t”, “won’t”, “don’t need to”, “why try?”  Many people do.

Do you find that what you say to yourself turns out to be true? Why is this?

You see your brain is like a computer that you feed each day. It
doesn’t always know what’s real or not unless you tell it.

Example: If someone you love has hurt you, you may tell yourself that all people who love you will probably hurt you too.

Your brain just files this information for reference, its data, little zeroes and ones and no column that asks “true or not true?” Now your brain thinks, based on what you told it, that everyone you’ll ever love will hurt you.

How do you think you will respond the next time you get hurt?

Right!!

Now, what if we instead told our brain:

“Okay this person ripped my heart out – but that’s only one person.
I’m lovable and have many loving people in my life who are not out to hurt me. I know that the right people are coming into my life all the time. If someone hurts me, I will forgive them and bless them on their way.”

Words can be empowering.

I can
I love to
I want to
I will
I must
I am
We can reach a new level of living, if we feed ourselves empowering words and practice saying them until they become a habit.

I know first hand that it takes time.

And I also know that it’s worth it.

Use Empowering Words When You Talk to Yourself
{Whether you are speaking out loud or silently}

Try it for a week.

Catch yourself saying, “I can’t”, when you don’t really mean it and instead try, “I can”, and see how you think and feel about yourself.

Remember, the words you use to empower yourself will have a lasting effect, only if you practice them and they become a habit {an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed
until it has become almost involuntary}.

They say it takes at least 28 days to develop a habit. After a week, you will see that it becomes easier. It’s a mindset and you can control your thoughts. Be proactive and not reactive – give yourself some good words.

Is this biblical you ask? They Word of God says,As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7. What you think about yourself and how  you talk about yourself is exactly who you will become – think about it! God made you wonderfully and fearfully {Psalm 139:14}! You deserve to talk about yourself as God would talk about you, and He would only talk good things about you! He made you because He loves you!
