What is God’s Will for Me?

What is God's will for me?What is God’s will for my life? It is a question I have asked myself and I am sure you have asked yourself the same. For me, if I am not careful it can become an obsession; the very weight of it and all the question marks can become overwhelming. But why? I guess because I, like you, want to make sure I am in His Will and my Father in Heaven is pleased with me. I do want to hear “Well done thy good and faithful servant” one day!

As I seek Him I have come to a new revelation which has helped set me free – God’s will is not a problem for ME to solve! Now before the lynch mob appears let’s look at the one place where all answers are found – The Bible.

The Word of God tells us plainly that His grace does not depend on our performance. We can do nothing to earn his grace; it is done for us. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” {Ephesians 2: 8-9}

And even though we tend to want to figure out exactly what God wants us to do in that moment, God’s Word says His faithfulness does not depend on what we know; our wisdom does not count here, it is His faithfulness that counts. “The LORD’S loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” {Lamentations 3:22-24}

Our promise from God is that no matter how our life looks His steadfastness and goodness trumps whatever is going on! No matter what it looks like; His love for you and I endures FOREVER towards us!! {Rest in Psalm 136 for a moment}

We tend to get caught up in what is going on; and I know things get messy and get scary and get hard. Trust me I KNOW! Yet, His love towards you and I endures. And because His love endures and because His grace does not depend on our performance, and because His faithfulness to help us does not depend on what we know – we can rest in this: His will is not so much a path we are to walk on as it is a way of walking. How we walk with Him matters. So how are we to walk out our daily messy lives you ask? Simple; We are to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances. This is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus.” {1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18}

That’s it! We can rest assured that when we continue to pray and give thanks, even in the hard stuff, we are in His Will. Praying though a hard situation sounds something like, “God I trust you, I do not necessarily  understand, but I trust you. Help me to stand even when I feel I have stood  a long time. I love you Father and I simply trust you in this.”

Now you can rest in knowing you are in His Will. Continue to declare His goodness: even when it does not look too good on the outside. Remember, even diamonds got off to a rough start, then a ton of pressure had to be applied to make a beautiful stone. Pressure is not fun I know – but the reward is. And I know this; God rewards trust {Check out these scriptures on trusting God}. Now rest in knowing that as you trust Him you are in His will!

Every Tomorrow Has Two Handles

Every Tomorrow Has Two Handles. Sandra Hersey. Keys to victorious faith Christian blog

“Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith.” ~ Henry Ward Beecher

I love this saying because we can create our future; we can have a future filled with anxiety or we can have faith to stand and believe our future is what we want it to be. Hebrews 11:1 so wonderfully proclaims to us, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (As a little freebie thrown in today notice that it says “now faith” – that means faith for right now! What do you need faith for right now?)
I want to help you write your future by looking into your future.

I want you to look closely at your goals you have set for this year. {If you have not set your goals for this year then stop now and do it!} I believe this year is going to be GREAT! I want you to BLAST into it, not have it take you by surprise, start now with what you want to happen this year! I want to help you live what’s most important every day you have left!

Your Goals
Look at your list carefully. Does your list of goals reflect opportunities for you to live your dreams? Think of it this way – on that sheet of paper is a small picture of your future.

Your future is a canvas that has yet to be drawn. Next year at this time, you will look at this list and as you cross off things you have accomplished it will be the history of your life… what happened… where you went… big and little accomplishments… failures… heartbreaks… disappointments… and even big successes.
The future will happen and day-by-day and sadly it will silently move into your past.

4 Key Questions:
Here are questions which are important in helping you create the future you want.

Have you written a list of the most important goals you want to experience in your life this year?

Have you written a personal mission statement for your life this year? A statement which promises how you will live what you value.

Have you written down your goals in clear detail with a date to each one?

Do you have at least one clearly defined goal for every major interest and role in your life? Example financial, health, relationships, etc

We are only a few weeks into the New Year. You may have not yet written down your goals and vision for this year or you may have done this but “fallen off the wagon” so to speak. No matter where you are on this day, start like it is January 1st all over again. It is not too late and if you have stumbled then get up and get going again. You can do this; your future can be what you create it to be.

I encourage you to start today, why not right now. You can never get these moments back so go forward.

Reading More and Dusting Less

Reading more and dusting less this year.

Well we have made it through the first week of a new year, how are you doing on your resolutions lol? No matter where you are on keeping your goals you set last week I do love those set in this little story. I read this a while back, though I am not sure really where it comes from. What I do know is that it is a great addition to the new year. Even if we do not do each thing, looking at what we can add to our lives will only make it richer.

“I’m reading more and dusting less. I’m sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I’m spending more time with my family and friends and less time working. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I’m trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them.

I’m not ‘saving’ anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries. I’m not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank. ‘Someday’ and ‘one of these days’ are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it’s worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now.

I’m not sure what others would’ve done had they known they wouldn’t be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner or for whatever their favorite food was. I’m guessing; I’ll never know.

It’s those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew my hours were limited. Angry because I hadn’t written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn’t tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them. I’m trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives.

And every morning when I open my eyes, I tell myself that it is special. Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift from God.”

Small and Ordinary Faith

My small and ordinary faith. Keys to Victorious Faith Inspirational BlogIf you know me you are shocked by the title of this post. I am always teaching you how to have faith that is uncommon; not small and ordinary. But before you get upset let me explain.

Many times we want to find what God has for us; what big thing we are called to. Yet we look at our lives and we do not see extra ordinary things. We see ordinary us.

My son preached a message where Saul needed someone to take down Goliath-the giant and David felt he could do it. David was telling Saul about how he had taken down bears and removed sheep from their mouths. David explained how he had already done some overcoming in his normal day to day life as a Shepard. David was trying to convince Saul that he was prepared already for the task of taking down a giant. The normal day to day steps of this Shepard taking down bears and removing sheep from the mouths of bears had prepared David to take down a giant – he was ready!

You my friend have been preparing as well. In the darkest moments, you were being prepared. In the ordinary moments you were being prepared. David tended sheep; that was his ordinary life. Every day the same, every day about those sheep. Even taking out bears and lions had become part of his ordinary every day life. It was part of what was needed to be done in order to keep his sheep alive.

Then David stepped on the scene of a giant who all the armies of Israel were afraid of; all except David! But what gave this small Shepard boy the confidence to step in and want to take him out? What Goliath and the others did not realize was there was a sling and a stone; these two ordinary parts of David’s daily life were the very things Goliath should have been afraid of. David day after day had learned how to use that sling. He knew how to choose just the right size stone to take out whatever was standing in the way of his flock’s lives. So that day on the battlefield David knew just how to use what was in his hand and to trust God has prepared him.

What about our faith, aren’t we to make it grow? Of course we are, but sometimes we are so focused on the life we think we are to have that we forget we are living exactly what God wants us to live. Even in our ordinary day we are in preparation for the greater. But our focus is always on the greater and what we don’t have, that we forget God calls us to do the greatest thing we can be doing AT THE MOMENT!

Every part of our ordinary life is a preparation for what God has coming up, we just need to shift our focus to using our faith on the small and ordinary things of our day to day life. Day in and day out David protected those sheep, day in and day out he fed and watered them, day in and day out he used his ordinary sling and small stones to perfect his aim. David never thought he was perfecting his aim to take out a giant; this was just normal every day activity. I am sure there were times David thought; who needs this silly old sling anyway, my life is so boring having to constantly follow these sheep. I want to do bigger and better things.

So you see, we are to grow our faith every day, and we are to grow our faith in the small and ordinary parts of our lives through daily preparation. If God says teach the nursery this week; we are preparing. If God says take out the trash at our place of work; we are preparing. If God says bake cookies for our child’s class; we are preparing. In our small and ordinary day to day life we are building our faith and preparing ourselves for what God has coming in the future.

We must stop looking at our life and asking when God is going to do something great with it. We are to start looking at the small and ordinary going on in our day to day lives and realize that what we are doing each day is what God needs us to do that day to change the world for that day, and it is preparing us for what “Goliath” is coming in our future.

Shaken or Shaped – Your Choice!

Shaped or shaken over a situation. The choice is yours. God is a faithful God; He has promised you, in His Word, He would never leave you and never forsake you {Deuteronomy 31:6}. His Word is truth. As you look around, the times you are facing are tough. If you watch the news, you will hear story after story revealing the tough times you are in. You girlfriend, have walked through tough times in your life, I know. However, God is a good God. He is a faithful God!

It is written in Deuteronomy 33:25, “…and as your day, so shall your strength, your rest and security, be.” Notice, it says your days will be strengthened. You will have rest and security. The words, “And as your day” refers to the times you are in – your day in history now. Your days will be tough at times; the Word has told you that. However, when you set your mind, your heart, your lips, and your feet, on Him and His Word, you shall be strengthened! God is always there supporting you and sustaining you – no matter what!

Vance Havner said “Sometimes your medicine bottle has on it, “Shake well before using.” That is what God has to do with some of His people. He has to shake them well before they are ever usable.” Look at your past. Look at where God has already brought you through! You may be in the midst of a storm right now, but you can get through it. In the past, if this storm had been in your life, you could not have stood up against it, but, because of what you have already gone through, you can walk through this storm stronger! God strengthened you in the last storm to prepare you for this storm. He is strengthening you in this storm to prepare you for the future! His future for you is good! You can – because you already have! You already have been through and came out the other side victoriously! Do you face storms? Then you will have strength! Do you have burdens? Then you will have strength! You will have strength, rest, and security in the hand of the Almighty God. He HAS strengthened you for this time, and He IS strengthening you for the future!

The storms, which come into your life, can either shake you or shape you. The choice is yours.

Laughing at Impossible Situations

Impossible Situations. Keys to victorious faith. Inspirational Women's BlogGenesis 18 tells us of the well-known story of Sarah laughing at an impossible situation. She was told she would bear a child when she was past child-bearing age; at least to her she was. But God is never too late, He can do the impossible!

When those men visited Abraham and Sarah they encouraged them to have faith in the promise that God would give them a son. When Sarah overheard the men talking her response was to laugh at what seemed impossible! She was ninety years old and could not believe this could happen to her now.  After her guests left Sarah continued to ponder their words – “Nothing is too hard for the LORD” and the Lord gave those words peculiar power which grew in her heart.

Does something in your life seem totally impossible for God? I know we all have or are facing situations like Sarah. We may have prayers which seemingly go unanswered. We then start to examine ourselves, and if you are like me you begin to ask is it because you are lacking faith?

God alone has created the world we live in. He created things we cannot see with our naked eye. Each day the sun rises and sets and is never too early or too late. The planets spin around us without even crashing into the earth. There are things happening every day we are not even aware of, yet God who is all-powerful and who greatly cares for every aspect of this universe, knows every detail about every thing.

It was impossible for Sarah to become pregnant, but she, just as we must, looked beyond impossibilities and placed her faith in God.

One important aspect of our Christian walk is faith and faith does not stand on nothing. Faith must have a promise in which to rest on and the Word of God is filled with Promise after Promise in which we can cling to and stand on in the midst of impossible situations.

“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2

“When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Then You knew my path. In the way in which I walk They have secretly set a snare for me.” Psalm 142:6

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Isaiah 40:28

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” John 14:1

“There is none holy like the LORD: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. For there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.” Psalm 28:7

“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalm 37:5

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:2

Are your finances impossible?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Does it seem impossible your child will ever change?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Is your marriage in an impossible place?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Is there a loved one where it seems impossible they will ever come to know Jesus?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Is a diagnosis from the doctor impossible for the doctors?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37

Nothing is too hard for the Lord! No matter your situation, it is in no way impossible for God!

Sarah was counted faithful “Because she judged him faithful who had promised.” She rested her faith on a promise from God.

Keep praying in faith, stand on those Promises given to us in His Word, because nothing is impossible for God!

How to Get Started

How to get started when you want change. Keys to victorious faith. Inspirational Blog. Sandra HerseyIf I asked ten people if they wanted to change or improve. I would received ten nods.

IF then asked those ten people precisely what they wanted. I would received ten stares.

Everyone wants to change. Everyone, however, does not  know what they want to change. The desire is there, but it’s vague. It’s a feeling and not a fact.

If you are serious about doing more with your life, you have to – have to – get clear about what you want. The answers may not come easily, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

It will take work. It will take focused thought, effort, and investigation. But lying on the other side of that work will be a life that makes you happier and more fulfilled than ever before.

Get clear about what you want – super specific – and you’ll be one of the rare few who do more than desire. You’ll pursue and achieve.

Do we really know what we want? In each area of our lives; spiritually, physically, financially, relationally – do we really really know? Today I am challenging myself and you to take some time and write down what we really want in each area of our lives. Writing it down is the first step! You can read more about writing it down here.

Take the first step in getting started and that my friend is getting started! Start!
